Riverdale Primary Election – Meet the Candidate Night

Last night at the Riverdale Lion’s Club Meet the Candidate Night, I mentioned one of the areas where I think Riverdale could improve. I said we could use technology better to increase transparency, accessibility of information and involvement of Riverdale citizens. As an example, I recorded Meet the Candidate Night for anyone who couldn’t be there or who wants to review what was said. You can listen to it in its entirety here:

To find specific comments and questions, here are my notes for where to skip to in the recording:

Panel Questions

  • 25:45 – What policies now in Riverdale would you want changed?
  • 35:39 – What would you do to beautify and enhance the beauty of Riverdale Road?
  • 43:26 – Based on the last Riverdale Citizen Survey, where does the City do well or can it improve? Based on the 5 City benchmarks which one best reflects the progress the City is making to improve the environment for the citizens?
  • 49:51 – Are the police doing anything about the recent rash of burglaries?
  • 51:26 – Ember. Word is you leaving the city as the City Recorder was less than amicable. If so, did this influence you to run for City Council, if so why or why not?
  • 53:38 – The subdivision built where the old pig farm is located on the north part of the city is located in a flood plain. Recently the area was filled in with dirt where it serves as a drainage. Why was this permitted and what is being planned to correct it?
  • 57:57 – During the last election, the city council certified the election despite being told Riverdale misinterpreted the law. Would you have voted to certify the election based on what you know now, why or why not?
  • 1:08:40 – Don Hunt. You’ve served two terms on the City Council. Why should you be voted in for a third term?
  • 1:12:54 – In what ways at home and work are you prepared to assist Riverdale Citizens in the event of a disaster regardless of size and complexity. City offices are located in the flood plain and are isolated with one bridge access, Federal funds are currently being bid for, in what way would you spend those funds for improvements for those funds to improve the area. Tell me why you are qualified for this position and what would your primary focus be specifically?
